Tools you will need:
A needle with burrs on the side
A felting mat or thick piece of foam
Non-superwash animal fiber yarn or roving, such as 100% wool Palette, Wool of the Andes, or our roving packs
Your special needle used for needle felting has small burrs on the side of the needle, as well as a very sharp tip. As you felt your yarn or roving, the burrs catch the fibers and tangle them, to create a dense and matted felt.
Since you are working with a very sharp needle, please be careful. Pay attention to what you are doing, and your fingers!
You can felt embellishments onto a animal fiber surface, such as a felted bag, a wool hat, or an alpaca sweater. Or you can felt free standing sculptures!
To begin, lay the surface of whatever you are felting onto the felting mat. Now create a design with yarn or roving. Go wild! You can create really intricate and colorful designs! Take the cap off of your needle felting tool and start stabbing over your design with your tool. As you do this, you will notice that your yarn and roving will become more compact and start to adhere to the surface. Repeat until you are satisfied!
